Unicorns altered!

Another week gone and it's almost March!  Where does the time go? I'm sure it was only Christmas a few days ago!

Anyway, I'd like to thank everyone who commented on last weeks post about my unicorn plaques, your feedback was fantastic and just goes to show that different people like different things. I've decided to keep both plaque ideas but taken your advice and made a few differences. The unicorns with rainbows are staying pretty much as they are,

I will have a go at writing the name in big colourful letters down the rainbow but if that doesn't look right then I shall just make the letters bolder so they stand out more. As for the plain unicorns they've had a bit of makeover.

I've added the dashed line border to them which I think really makes a difference to plaques and lots of people seem to like this. I might try a rainbow coloured dashed line with the rainbow plaques but I think just one colour looks better on these ones. I've also made the eye darker on the pink unicorn, she doesn't look as evil now as she did with pink eyes! Finally I've added some silver stars to the background. So what do you think now?

Now we can't forget that very soon it will be mothers day. I don't have any children but I love this time of year as I love spoiling my mum. I will do a more detailed post about Mothers day soon but I just wanted to show you a plaque I've made as a mothers day gift idea,

The big teddy will obviously have the pink bow but the little one can have a pink or blue bow depending on whether it's a gift from a girl or boy. I can also add the givers name underneath if requested. I have to admit I'm pretty pleased with these, I'm still working on facial expressions but I'm getting there, a slight change in bow colours and wording and it's a gift for fathers day too!

Enough from me, it's now time to go over to Wendy's Handmade Monday and see what everyone else has been up to.
Until next time,
Jem

Unicorns

Just a short post this weekend to show some plaques that i've been working on and to join in with Handmade Monday which I missed last week.

I love the idea of a magical fantasy world which is partly why I created the dragon plaques a little while ago. To carry on the fantasy theme I made some unicorn plaques in pink and purple but there was something about them that I wasn't too sure on,

So I decided to tweak them and give them a white background but again I wasn't too sure, they looked a little plain, so on went the thinking cap and after a bit of deliberation I decided to add a rainbow with little flowers.

Lola

Lily

Lucy

Just like the dragons I have named these unicorns but I'm still a little unsure of them, one of the worst things about doing crafts is that its so easy to criticise yourself so readers i'm asking for your advice, which one do you prefer? The plain ones or the ones with the rainbows? Do you think they should be altered further or done completely different? I'm open to any suggestions!

Please go see what the other crafters are up to over at Handmade Monday, I'm off to bed now as I've just finished a night shift but i'll be looking through them all this evening.
Have a great week,
Jem

Liebster blog award

I've won an award!
I'm really chuffed to have been given the Liebster blog award by Jill over at Christmas Pie Crafts It's nice enough to know that someone reads what I write but for someone to give me this means a lot.

The rules for this award are:
You must link back to the person who gave it to you
Put the award on your blog
Pass it on to 5 other blogs who inspire you and have less than 200 followers
And leave a comment on their blogs to let them know

There are lots of brilliant blogs out there but the 5 I have chosen are:

With U in Mind - She makes jewellery, she knits but most of all I'm loving the little monster keyrings that Kat's been creating lately.

Handbags by Helen - Helen makes gorgeous bags, I especially like the one from her 'Tree of Life' collection and can't wait to see more in this range.

Fatmonica - The ATC queen and a wizard with a bit of ink, check out the journal that she's building too.

ZukieStyle - If you have a pampered pooch you definately need to check this blog out, enter as a normal dog, leave looking like the dogs wotsits!

Giftsbyjenny - A range of different crafts, knitting, crocheting, felting etc but best of all are her crazy sock monsters

I hope you guys love it as much as I do.

Slowing down

I appear to have let time slip through my fingers a little bit this week and in doing so I've missed linking up with Handmade Monday. Things have been a bit manic lately, how is it that life has a habit of creeping up on you and taking away all the time you had set aside for crafts?

I am in the process of making some big decisions, a little while ago I moved from my beautiful county of Somerset up to Yorkshire because of my full-time job. Now Yorkshire is also a beautiful place but its not for me and ever since I arrived I've been desperate to move back. Now it looks like that may just happen! I have applied for a new job back home and although it is still very early days I have my fingers very tightly crossed that i'll get it. This does mean that i'll have to put Jam Dalory on the back burner for a couple of months and the website is now on the list of 'i'll do it one day'. Hopefully this won't be for too long, if I get the job and move back down South then it will be full steam ahead with websites and craft fairs. I'm not stopping crafting though, just slowing down, and if anyone wants to order anything you can do so by emailing me at jamdalory@hotmail.co.uk or by leaving a comment on this blog and i'll get back to you.

I'll still be blogging too, I've noticed that Jill over at Christmas Pie Crafts has very kindly given me a Liebster Blog Award so i'll be doing a post about that in a few days time.

Thwarted by the snow

Hows the weather where you are? I think its fair to say its flippin' freezing.

I had planned to meet up with a friend on Saturday evening for a lovely pub dinner and a good old catch up however the weather had other plans for me. There was a few inches of snow outside my door but being the eternal optimist I figured if I could just get my car out of the side streets then the main roads would be fine, how wrong I was! I never made it out of second gear and after passing an ambulance car that had mistaken a building for a bit of road and reduced its overall length by a good foot or two I decided the safest option was to turn around and head for the safety of home.
I was not a happy bunny, especially as the friend I was meeting had placed an order for a photo frame which I was taking with me, hopefully the weather will subside soon else I may have to post it to her.

Anyway, wherever you are and whatever the weather, stay warm, stay safe, be lucky and make sure you pop over to Wendy's Handmade Monday too.
Until next time,
Jem

1st February 2012

Today is the first of February and I have failed in my mission.

I wanted my website to be up and running before the end of January and as you can see it isn't. This is partly due to forces outside of my control (like spaceships and aliens), and partly due to long hours at my normal job and a few trips away.
I am still working on it though and it will be live sometime in the not too distant future, until then if you see something you like and would like to place an order please do contact me either by leaving a comment on my blog or by emailing me at jamdalory@hotmail.co.uk
